How we write guides at Boney

Boney guides are written to help real people make clearer, calmer financial decisions — not to generate clicks or fill pages. This page describes how we work.

    Our author

Mathieu Cadu is the founder of Boney. He built Boney to solve a real problem: tracking shared expenses without drama, across couples and households.

    What we write about

Every guide covers one specific situation: splitting bills fairly, setting up a household budget, understanding where money goes, or staying on the same page as a couple. We focus on situations that Boney users actually face.

    Topics we cover:

    • Shared expenses and fairness between partners or roommates
    • Budgeting methods that work in practice, not just on paper
    • Understanding spending habits and making small, sustainable changes
    • Using Boney's features to their full potential

    How we write

Honest first. We do not overstate what is possible or promise guaranteed results. Personal finance is personal — what works for one household may not work for another.

Specific over vague. We prefer one concrete example over three abstract principles. If we recommend a method, we explain why and when it applies.

No jargon gatekeeping. We avoid finance jargon when plain language works. When a technical term matters, we define it.

Updated when reality changes. A guide that gives outdated advice is worse than no guide. We review and update guides when the situation they cover changes.

    Not financial advice

The guides on Boney are educational content. They are not personalised financial advice, investment advice, or tax advice. Every financial situation is different. If you need personalised guidance, consult a qualified financial adviser in your country.
